The Ballston Area Community Center (BACC) is a not-for-profit corporation serving youth, ages 5 to 18, who live in the Ballston Spa School District and surrounding area.
To provide essential community services, programs, support and projects that enhance the social, emotional and recreational development of youth and families of the Ballston Area.
To directly benefit the quality of life of the residents of the Ballston Area.
The History of BACC
A group of concerned mothers and Michael Palma, Assistant Principal of the high school established the Ballston Area Community Center (formerly the Area Center for Teens) in 1981 to provide supervised activities for youth during non-school hours. Originally, the Center developed as a teen drop-in program and provided a range of recreational and educational activities. Recognizing the need to expand services to younger children, a school-age child care program began operation in 1985 serving twenty children.
Over the years, the agency developed additional programming and successful grant writing and fund raising led to the development of the new building on Scott Street. The only community-based, non-profit youth and family services agency in the village, the Ballston Area Community Center continues to strive to meet the needs of people living in the Ballston Spa School District.
The program now serves children throughout the school district from kindergarten through high school. The new facility has provided the opportunity to serve many more children and their families. Through its larger gym and teen lounge, the teen program now serves over 200 adolescents per year. The school-age program serves 68 children during its morning and afternoon sessions at the Scott Street site and another 40 children at its expansion site at the Milton Terrace Elementary School. During the summer, the school-age program becomes an all day summer program for 75 children and the teen program provides supervised recreational activities at Kelly Park serving 25 adolescents.
A volunteer board of directors serves to guide the organization and well-qualified staff oversee program design, development, and implementation.
